~SLIPPING THE BLADE IN THE MARMALADE~
I didn't get what all the fuss was about when songs from Little Earthquakes were first being played on the radio. It took me until her 1994 release, Under The Pink, to "get it". Even the first time I heard that album, I hated it! I threw it under the bed and forgot about it. I had bought it when "God" was released as a single but gave it a second chance after "Cornflake Girl" came out. The second time I listened to UTP, I started a lifelong love for Tori. I have never heard more personal, honest lyrics in my life and she sounds like no-one else. I guess I had to wait until the right time to understand what it meant. Her music has gotten me through more rough times than I could ever count and seeing her perform live is an unparalled experience! I have been lucky enough to see her 10 1/2 times: Under The Pink Tour:
9/20/94 Macky Auditorium, Boulder, Colorado I also got to work on two of her shows, since I worked as a stagehand at Macky Auditorium when she played there, both in 1994 and 1996. I had a horrible experience when I worked for her in 1994 and swore that I would never be a fan again (she was a bit of a diva, but I later found out why and forgave her) but I just couldn't stay away when Boys For Pele was released. I had plenty of oppourtunities to meet Tori but I didn't bother her since I was working for her at the time (that just would've been tacky in my opinion). I don't really know what I'd say to her anyway! You can see photos from one of the shows I worked on at the EWF PHOTO SITE (under Meredith P. Moseley, she's a girl I worked with who took photos at the show!) Under The Pink is my favourite cd, with Boys For Pele being a close second. It's hard to narrow it down to a favourite song, but I'd have to say either Sister Janet, Butterfly, Siren, Cornflake Girl, or Liquid Diamonds. My favourite tour was definitely The Dew Drop Inn Tour ('96), but that Gothic Theatre show in 1999 is totally unparalleled! I treasure every item I own from all of the concerts and chances are, if you see me on the street, I'll be wearing a Tori Amos necklace and/or t-shirt (sad but true!). I also strongly support her charity foundation, RAINN--the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network as a survivour of molestation (I was 15, he was a "friend"). Tori is strong, smart, independent, beautiful, amazingly talented and brave. No words I could use would do her justice. Tori Amos bootlegs are HERE, and
videos are HERE. A Tori-related place I spend too much time on is HERE. The bible for Tori on the web is HERE. Please check out Pauline Stuckey's page HERE! She is an amazing artist who does many Tori-inspired pieces. Her work can also be found on ebay.
